Dan Haworth Appointed to Research Computing and Cyberinfrastructure Executive Committee

Dan Haworth, professor of mechanical engineering, has been appointed to Penn State’s Research Computing and Cyberinfrastructure (RCCI) executive committee.

RCCI is a newly formed council tasked with bringing faculty and information technology (IT) perspectives to issues related to research computing. The new governance will enable better communication and coordination among faculty researchers and IT professionals. It will also provide an avenue through which researchers’ questions, suggestions, and problems concerning research IT can be communicated to the University’s vice president for research and ultimately the provost.

Haworth will step down from his role as associate head of graduate programs in mechanical and nuclear engineering, a position he’s held since 2011, to take on the new role.

Haworth has been with Penn State since 1999. He directs the Penn State Center for Combustion, Power, and Propulsion at Penn State. His research is in the area of computational thermal-fluids sciences, including fluid mechanics, turbulence, combustion, numerical methods, IC engines, and transportation propulsion systems.

Haworth has been widely recognized for his teaching and advising. In 2002, he received the Joel and Ruth Spira Teaching Award. In 2003, he was honored with the SAE Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award and the Department Head Faculty Award in mechanical and nuclear engineering. In 2004, he received the Outstanding Advising Award from the Penn State Engineering Alumni Society and the Outstanding Faculty Adviser Award from the National Science Foundation.
